Default School Uniforms

The concept of school uniforms is gaining some ground, or at least having a firm dress code. What kids demand and expect to be 'in' is just too expensive in this economy. Do you think a standardized dress code or even uniforms should make a comeback?

Where I am even nursery kids (3-4 years old) wear a uniform. It saves money on having 'good' clothes for school and saves arguements over what the child will wear to school that day. I think they're great!

School uniforms are helpful in identifying kids who cut classes and is cheaper too. It also eliminates social or economic status building in school.

I think that uniforms are a great option as well. I love how it presents the students with some order and is cheaper than having the parents buy new clothes over and over.

I'm all in favour for all of the reasons stated and the supermarkets here in the UK have a really inexpensive range of basic uniforms to help out hardup families.

I agree with silviana on this one. Some families who are tight on budget can't afford the latest fashion on what their kids want when they go to school. Basic school uniforms should make a comeback, it helps differentiate who the students are and who aren't.

Thanks for all the responses. I totally agree. I saw a friend's daughter have a dire case of the 'keep up withs' that was causing such anxiety. I think the uniforms are the way to go.

Once the first year of school for most (pre, or not) there are now uniforms all over. My son spends (well parents spend) almost 900USD a year on them, A YEAR, and almost ONE K - uhhh What?

That is what my first thought was, I do not even spend that much on clothes, and I am a lady.

That is absolutely a horrible amount! I can't see how you can manage to spend that much in all honesty. I buy one, maybe two sets of uniform clothing for a year-and would expect to pay around $100 for the lot.

I like the idea of school uniforms. It helps the kids to identify each other and to look somewhat the same as each other. I won't say it brings them together but it does help students to have a sense of unity.
