Is that the word for it? I am trying to see how long it takes to push a site from the old place over to the new place and the new place is telling me that it should take 48hrs, I thought three days was the average?

I think 48-72 hours is about average, it just depends on your previous host and the new one. I transferred from yahoo to register.com and it actually only took about a day to complete.

I think I remember a friend of mine used some place that has a cruddy (almost homemade like) control panel and she could not figure out how to go in and change it herself. I just do not want to deal with a ton of downtime. What is it when its hosted at the old place and the new place at the same time - is there a fee for that?

Have you asked your hosting compnay? They would most likely have the answer to your question. I bet the timing would vary by host company. Good luck!

Most say its always a three day time span just to be on the safe side, but oddly this was done within about 36hrs which I thought was a full shock. I guess I got lucky.
