We had the most awful weather-it was solid cloud all night so I missed out.
You need to be in a dark area-any light pollution will over expose your shot. Do you have a bulb setting on your camera, where you can leave the shutter open permanently?
Two ways-use bulb, cover the lens till you see activity (with card for instance) and then uncover till the meteor is gone.
Otherwise, most will do a 15 second exposure. You'll have to keep repeating that. Go for a large aperture (low F number) and play around with your ISO. Higher of course will expose faster but will have more noise and the problem there is that you are looking for fine detail-the noise may affect it.
