Default Debating a laptop

Yes or no is the question, but I still do not know if I really want a laptop or not. I could see the use of it, and having it as a "just in case" would be nice, but I do not want "tied" to my work either.

Laptops have many limitations compared to a desktop. Unless you really have a need for it, it is really just an expensive novelty.

Laptops are for mobility. Don't expect them to over-perform a desktop

I agree. My husband has a laptop and I frequently hear him complaining about how slow it is compared to my desktop! I wouldn't swap him!

Depends on what you do on the laptop. If its slow it might need a defrag or reformat?

My laptop sometimes beats my desktop computer in terms of speed in some areas. But in general, my laptop is slower than my desktop even though my laptop has bigger clock speed (3.06Ghz compared to 2.66Ghz)

I like a laptop because I can be anywhere in the house and still access the Internet. We have a couple of them in the house and one workstation.

I'll be honest-I bought a laptop four years ago that kicked the butt of most desk tops. But I paid $1500 for it, it had all the bells and whistles. My current one is a little upgraded compared to that, but technology has moved on so much in that time that its not kept pace.

Anyway laptops just cost way more to achieve comparable results.

The only thing I know about a laptop is that it's way more expensive yet slower than a desktop with the similar configuration. So, unless you want to work in your garden, in the bedroom or on a trip, a desktop is still a better option.

What I noticed about laptops is that tend to warm up very quickly. I think this is the reason why laptops are slower than desktops.

I haven't really used Mac notebooks and some say that it can outdo a desktop.

Laptops do get hot, because of all the components packed into such a small space. It limits the ability to circulate air. An external laptop cooling pad helps heaps in keeping it cool, and it generally cheap to buy.
