Default What do I need? Advice needed

Hello!

I am looking for a new computer and I really do not know what I technically need. Having been in so much stores and being impressed by the computers they offer, but I do not see the trees in the wood right now.

I only surf the web, watch videos in the web, download films and do my personal writing things on it.

That is all. I am not doing any visual effects or programming with my computer.

What do I really need that I do not have to buy a new computer in two years?
Any advice from you would be nice.

Well I think Apple iMac would be suitable for your needs.
It saves space and looks good on the desk
Plus the specs are good enough for two years.

@Arudo
be nice for PC user, lol

if you want to buy Apple product, u should get an iMac or MacBookPro,
but if you want to get a PC u should know the hardware specifications installed in the computer.

RAM and the CPU Processor should be considered first.
2GB RAM and 2.20 GHz Dual Core is enough for your work.

if you want more, 4 GB RAM and any Quad Core or i7 (8 core) processor should be fine.
u can install Windows 7 now, and it's better than Stupid Vista. and your PC should run faster than XP or Vista.

No Apple- sorry I do not like the design and I do not want to buy a new computer in two years. I want it to stay and work longer at all.

This windows 7 is only a RC version.

Do they have already the real one on the market? I though this would come up in three months?

How about the costs? How much do I have to invest?

Sounds like you are going to need some hard drive space if you are download films and sometimes they can be quite spacey. I am looking for an external hard drive myself so I can backup all of my photos, its a pain trying to find one in the right price range though.

I have an external hard drive already, because of the slow and old computer I am working with.
I have packed all my films and music on an external drive. All other things which I would not like to loose are there too.

Price was $60 for 500 GB external hard drive.

I am with you Louise. I need a new computer, I even ordered a custom built one but when I went to go get it, the computer center couldn't even log into the thing again due to Vista locking up. I DO NOT WANT VISTA! I am stumped. I know I don't want Apple and I know I don't want Dell, I don't know where else to look so I just gave up til the next time I go to the city.

Completely agree with Arudo. Especially when you said that you want a computer that is hassle-free for at least 2 years. Well, you better pick Mac.

- I recommend getting an iMac 20 inch for 1199 if you prefer a desktop.
- But if you are a mobile user, go get a White MacBook for $999. If you want to get better screen, better battery life, backlight keyboard etc, go for the entry level MacBook Pro for $200 more!

Once used PC, never want to get sucked to it again!

Well, it was just my personal experience. No hard feelings people!
