Default Arizona's Immigration Law

Arizona's immigration crackdown has remained at the center of the news for weeks. Everyone is fighting about it. Have you taken a stand? If so, are you supportive of Arizona or not?

Arizona and the Federal government actually go to court today. I am wholeheartedly behind the state of Arizona if the Federal government will not step up and do their jobs then it is the state's right to do so.

I think Arizona has a right to deal with its own illegal immigration problem, but I also think the legislation as worded does bring up some serious problems. What does an illegal immigrant look like? If the state can come up with criteria for "reasonable suspicion" for illegal immigration that doesn't rely on a person's race or cultural traditions, I'll be fine with it.

There isn't a way to do it that way and the Arizona law unlike the Federal law does try to dscourage discrimination. The cold hard fact of the matter is 99.9 % of illegal immigrants in this country are Hispanic

It is a difficult thing, and I have compassion and sympathy for both sides. I see the potential for abuse while also believing that something like this law is needed. I'm glad I'm not a decision maker.

It is a cold, hard fact and is simply because there is a physical border that can be walked across! It needs to be done, and yes I support them in this. I wish more states had taken a stand-and I speak as a legal immigrant to the USA who had to go through all the cost, bells and whistles to do it. Illegal immigration makes me very angry!

I wouldn't have a problem with them checking someone's status once they've been stopped or arrested. I do have a problem with the law allowing them to stop you just because you look like you might be an illegal. That becomes racial profiling and it simply isn't right considering how many people are US citizens but have the ethnic appearance.

I agree with Arizona. We need to crack down on illegal immigrants. I understand people wanting to become a citizen here but do it right and pay taxes like everyone else has to here.

One thing is for sure - if they'd decided to ask everyone (read: not just Hispanics) for their papers whenever they were out and about in public, there'd have been a huge public outcry against this law.

Well looks as for the time being it's not really an issue since the federal judge has put it all on hold pending further arguments.
