BP involved in release of Lockerbie bomber?

Scottish ministers released the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset al-Megrah on compassionate grounds last September because doctors said he would be dead from cancer within 3 months. He is in Libya now apparently healthy and well and BP have been accused of being the instigators of his release. The story can be found here. What do you think?

I don't see it as any of the US government's business. The supposed lobbying took place in another country, not here, and ultimately it was that government that decided to do the prisoner swap.
