Encouraging Public Transport Use

In the UK the government keeps making pushes towards the increased use of public transport for environmental reasons, and to reduce the overuse of cars. There are too many cars for our small island!

Yet the transport system is unreliable and expensive. What are your feelings regarding the use of public transport-should we forego convenience and leave the car at home for a change?

You'll never get rid of cars, there's too much big money in them. That's why the government's attempts to promote public transport are so half-hearted. I live in such a rural place that we need a car just to get to local shops, doctors etc. The bus service is very infrequent.

I don't think cars will ever disappear, but I do think that people should make a little more effort to use public transport if they are environmentally conscious. If the public transport system is unreliable, though, I can understand how using them can become too troublesome.

I think people just need to put some effort into common sense. I can not think of how many times someone could save a little by taking a bus or carpooling, or heaven forbid, walking somewhere. There was a day when the world just stopped and got lazy, and thats where we are now and why we are hurting.

There's no way I'd take the bus where I live. When I drive, it takes no more than 20 minutes to get to work. When I take the bus, it can take up to an hour or more.
