Default Work on your own car?

Do you work on your own car or do you take it to a mechanic? I do as much as I can on my car, but with my van I take it to the shop. The car's engine is easy to access but the van's engine is just awful to work on.

I absolutely work on my own car. I put wheels on them, I put a bull bar and Hella foglights on it. I kinda have feelings for my own car, i love putting efforts to make it more beautiful.

Also, when it's time to change oil, I sometimes tell mechanic to do it, because it takes a lot of time to replace the whole oil, and messy too! Other than that, I take care of my own car, wax it, wash it too!

If I could I sure would! You save a ton of money when you know to work on your own car. Unfortunately we barely know how to change the oil, much less anything else .

For me, there's a real sense of accomplishment when I can identify and fix a problem with my car. My wife is even with me sometimes to lend a second set of eyes and brain when troubleshooting. She's great!

I only work on my own car because it saves me money and I have the time. I used to do it then stopped when I was really busy. Right now it seems to make economical sense though.

I haven't a mechanical bone in my entire body which means that if my car needs anything more than a wash or gas, it goes to a mechanic somewhere in the city.

My boyfriend and his best friend do a lot of the work on my car. I don't know the first thing about cars, so I appreciate the help. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting taken advantage of when I go to a mechanic, since it's usually pretty obvious that I don't have a clue.

I absolutely used to love fixing my own car when I was younger. I have stripped an engine in my kitchen and replaced an exhaust. I was married for a time to a welder so I knew quite a bit about car chassis too but I'm a bit long in the tooth to get underneath a car now!
